Josh Stein's new team: main people and recovery plans.

North Carolina Governor-elect Josh Stein announced that several members of outgoing Governor Roy Cooper's team will stay in their roles. These include Public Safety Secretary Eddie Buffaloe, Transportation Secretary Joey Hopkins, and State Budget Director Kristin Walker.

These leaders played crucial roles in the state's response to the devastating Hurricane Helene. Hopkins, for instance, has been working to repair the extensive damage to roads and bridges caused by the hurricane.

Stein expressed his gratitude for Hopkins' willingness to stay on in the interim to oversee the recovery efforts. He also acknowledged Buffaloe's leadership in the aftermath of the hurricane.

In addition to these key roles, Stein announced other appointments to his cabinet, including Lee Lilley as Commerce Secretary and Staci Meyer as State Human Resources Director. Teena Piccione, with a background in technology, was chosen to lead the Department of Information Technology.

Most of Stein's cabinet appointments will require confirmation from the Senate. It remains unclear whether Hopkins and Buffaloe, having been previously confirmed, will need to undergo the process again.
