Newark Airport has continuous delays because of problems with air traffic control.

A software update stopped a radar problem at Newark airport. This happened after a telecom line failed. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy talked about it. The recent problems caused many delays and cancellations. Duffy said the Biden administration should have helped the air traffic control in Philadelphia.

Delays continued at Newark airport on Monday. This was because of not enough air traffic controllers. Some controllers took leave after the first radar issue. The FAA had limited flights into Newark after the first problem. This, plus runway work, made the delays worse. The FAA will talk with airlines about keeping limits this summer.

Duffy said the software update helped the backup system work on Sunday. A similar issue happened before, causing radar and communication systems to fail. Even though the radar worked on Sunday, controllers were worried. They stopped all flights at Newark for a short time as a safety measure.

Duffy will ask for an investigation into moving Newark air traffic controllers from New York to Philadelphia. He wants to know why problems were not prevented. Duffy said the FAA made a mistake by not protecting the telecom lines. He also said a new radar system for Newark should have been set up in Philadelphia.
