Moscow street changed from Ayatollah Khomeini to Ayatollah Khamenei: Residents are upset.

The mayor of Moscow changed the name of a street from Ayatollah Khomeini to Ayatollah Khamenei. The mayor said this was done to update the city's street names to reflect the current political situation.

Ayatollah Khomeini was the leader of Iran from 1979 until his death in 1989. The street in Moscow was named after him in 1999, but now it's named after the current leader of Iran, Ayatollah Khamenei.

People who live on the street are confused because the name changed so suddenly. They say delivery drivers and even their doctor are having trouble finding their homes now.

There is a law in Moscow that says you can't name a street after someone who died less than ten years ago, and Khamenei is still alive. But the city government says this rule doesn't matter because of the current political situation.

People are worried that Khamenei is already 85 years old and might not live much longer. They're worried that if he dies, they'll have to change their addresses again when the street is renamed after the next leader of Iran.
