Last Jews Preserve Legacy in Kochi Jew Town

Keith Hallegua is the last Jew in Kochi's old Jew Town. He often prays alone in his ancient synagogue.

Many Jews left Kochi for Israel in the 1950s. They left behind their homes and old synagogues.

The community had two groups: Paradesi and Malabari Jews. They faced social divisions in earlier times.

He lights Shabbat candles and closes his shop on Saturdays. He teaches his son to continue this special work.
