Coming back from destruction: The amazing repair of Notre Dame Cathedral.

The fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in 2019 was a terrible event. It destroyed the roof, spire, and parts of the building. However, the stained-glass windows, organ, furniture, and paintings were all saved.

French President Macron promised to rebuild the cathedral in just five years. This was a big goal, and many people wanted to help. People from all over the world gave money, and soon there was almost $1 billion for the project.

Rebuilding Notre Dame was difficult. There were problems with lead dust, the COVID-19 pandemic, and bad weather. But the workers continued, and they found new ways to do the work quickly and safely.

As the cathedral was being rebuilt, workers found that the fire had actually made some things more beautiful. The stone was cleaner and brighter after the fire. The chief architect, Philippe Villeneuve, worked hard to make the restored cathedral look as much like the original as possible.

Although the rebuilding project is almost finished, the cause of the fire is still unknown. This is upsetting to Villeneuve and many others. However, new fire safety systems have been installed to help prevent another tragedy like this from happening again.
