The Unusual Seven-Color Rainbow: A Sight to See Over Washington D.C.
Reading
People in Washington, D.C. saw a rare weather event during Donald Trump's inauguration. For the first time in 17 years, a seven-colored rainbow appeared instead of the usual six-colored one.
Rainbows with seven colors are more common in countries like Russia, Iran, North Korea, and China. They are sometimes seen in Poland and Hungary, but rainbows in Western Europe, the US, and South Korea usually have six colors and are missing blue.
This difference in rainbows led to the creation of the LGBTQ movement, which adopted the six-colored rainbow as a symbol. This movement is banned in Russia.
However, a seven-colored rainbow has been seen in Washington before. The last time was before Barack Obama took office in late 2008.
That rainbow coincided with Vladimir Putin's speech in Munich and Xi Jinping's first official visit to the US. Since then, only six-colored rainbows have appeared over Washington.
