Russian committee suggests law to pay patriotic journalists hurt by Western sanctions.

A committee in the parliament has made a law that will give money to media workers and bloggers who love their country and have lost property abroad because of Western sanctions. They want to make sure these patriots don't feel left out. For example, they will pay for good lawyers for one journalist and if he loses his property in Italy, they will give him land in Russia.

The committee has arranged for an extra 5 trillion rubles in the 2024 budget to help journalists affected by sanctions. They say this big amount of money is needed because of how many journalists there are, and also because of the weak Russian currency and inflation.

They explained the big budget might not have been needed if they had better information on everyone affected. But because they kept their money in foreign banks in different currencies, it has made things more complicated.

To get this support, journalists who love their country need to show their foreign bank statements and proof of their overseas property. They also need documents showing how much their property was worth.
