FDA's tobacco regulation department is going through big changes as leaders leave.

The FDA's tobacco boss, Brian King, was removed. This is part of big cuts to health workers. Many top experts are leaving who watch over food and drugs.

King said he was sad to be put on leave. Many others in the FDA's tobacco section were also fired. Two whole teams that make tobacco rules were cut.

Mitch Zeller, a former tobacco chief, said it makes no sense. He said it hurts public health. The FDA's press office was also let go.

King made vaping companies take fruit flavors off the market. Teen vaping went down during his time. His removal came after the vaccine chief was also forced out.

Almost all of the FDA's top leaders have left recently. Robert Califf, a former FDA head, said this is a mistake. The FDA now has fewer experts, and workers are upset.
