A jawbone was found in Taiwan. Scientists think it belonged to Denisovans. Denisovans were early human ancestors; they are not well known.

Denisovan fossils are very rare to find. Some fossils were found in East Asia. These fossils include jawbones, teeth, and part of a finger bone.

The jawbone from Taiwan may be Denisovan. This means they lived in more places. The jawbone was found in the sea and then sold.

Scientists could not study the old DNA of the fossil. They took some proteins from the jawbone. The proteins were like those from a Denisovan fossil in Siberia.

One scientist wants more information to be sure. He said the study did a very good job. Denisovans, Neanderthals, and Homo sapiens lived together long ago and mixed.
