Barcelona's MetroCharge: A Green Change in City Transport.

Barcelona has a new project called MetroCharge that uses energy from subway brakes. This energy powers the trains and stations, with extra energy going to charge electric cars.

The system uses regenerative brakes, which capture energy that would normally be lost as heat. This energy is then sent through cables to charging stations near the subway stations.

Professor Alvaro Luna says this system is good because it uses energy locally, which is efficient. Using energy locally can also make charging electric cars cheaper.

The MetroCharge project also includes solar panels, helping to power 28 subway stations. Jordi Picas, a subway manager, says the project will save money and energy in the long run.

While this project is a good step, Spain still needs more charging stations for electric cars. Taxi driver Ángel García thinks the government should help people buy electric cars, too.
