Bulgaria's GERB party tries to create a new government during political division.

The president of Bulgaria has asked the GERB party to form a new government. This comes after an election three months ago resulted in no party gaining a majority. The GERB party won the most seats but not enough to govern alone, requiring them to find partners to form a coalition.

Rosen Zhelyazkov, the proposed Prime Minister from the GERB party, has presented his list of ministers to the president. The president will now send this list to parliament for approval.

Zhelyazkov, a lawyer, would replace Boyko Borissov, who had led the GERB party in previous governments. This change reflects a desire for change after Borissov's previous government resigned due to protests.

The proposed new government aims to focus on accessing European Union funds and improving government operations. A stable government is crucial for Bulgaria to manage inflation and ensure the smooth flow of EU funds.

To form a majority, the GERB party has made compromises to bring together a diverse coalition. This includes partnering with the pro-Russia Socialist Party and the populist group There Is Such a People.
