CISA's Future: Keeping Elections Honest Despite Political Problems.

Jen Easterly, who leads the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), hopes the agency can continue protecting elections. Some people disagree with CISA's role in elections, but Easterly believes it's important to help state and local officials.

CISA protects important things like dams, banks, and power plants. After Russia interfered with the 2016 election, CISA also started protecting voting systems.

Some lawmakers want to reduce CISA's power or even shut it down. They think the agency shouldn't be involved in elections.

Easterly is proud that CISA has built good relationships with election officials from both parties. She says they worked well together to stop foreign countries from spreading lies about the 2024 election.

Easterly also worries about China trying to harm important systems in the United States. She wants the country to be ready if China tries to cause problems with things like water, transportation, or communication.
