Asteroid Bennu: Discovering the Basic Elements of Life from Space.

Scientists found something very interesting in the dust and pebbles brought back from an asteroid. They found things that show asteroids might have brought the ingredients for life to Earth a long time ago. A spacecraft named Osiris-Rex collected these samples from an asteroid called Bennu. This is the biggest collection of space material we've ever gotten from beyond the moon. Scientists found things called sodium-rich minerals and amino acids in the samples, which are like building blocks for life.

They also found salts in the samples, similar to what you would find in very dry places on Earth. These salts are very delicate and wouldn't survive if they came to Earth in a meteorite, so getting them directly from the asteroid was important. All of these ingredients, combined with water, create a perfect environment for life to begin.

One surprising discovery was a lot of nitrogen, which is another important ingredient for life. Although scientists have found these things in meteorites before, finding them in the Bennu samples is more reliable. This means they are real space materials and not just contamination from Earth.
