U.S.and Russia talk about stopping fighting during Ukraine conflict.

The U.S. is trying to help Russia and Ukraine agree to a ceasefire in the war. They met with both sides separately to talk about a possible 30-day break in the fighting.

One problem is that Russia and Ukraine don't agree on which places would be off-limits for attacks. Ukraine wants to protect things like railways and ports, but Russia only wants to protect energy infrastructure.

The U.S. and Russia also talked about the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine. This plant is very important, but it's been dangerous since Russia took control of it.

Even while the talks were happening, both Russia and Ukraine continued to attack each other. Russia said it only attacked a military target, but Ukraine said Russia attacked a school.

Ukraine wants a complete ceasefire, but Russia has some demands before it will agree to stop fighting. The U.S. hopes that if the fighting stops for a little while, it could lead to a longer break in the war.
