Swedish prosecutors clear Bulgarian ship in investigation of damage to underwater cables.

Swedish prosecutors released a Bulgarian ship after deciding it did not sabotage an undersea cable. The cable, which connects Sweden and Latvia, was damaged in January, causing concern about possible Russian involvement.

Although the ship did accidentally break the cable, investigators found no evidence of intentional sabotage. They examined the scene, analyzed equipment, and interviewed witnesses before reaching this conclusion.

The investigation is ongoing to determine if any other crimes were committed in relation to the cable damage. The Bulgarian shipping company, Navibulgar, has always maintained their ship's innocence.

This incident follows a series of similar cable disruptions in the Baltic Sea, raising suspicions about Russia's involvement. Some believe these disruptions could be linked to Russia's "shadow fleet" of tankers, which operate outside of international regulations.

Navibulgar explained their ship was caught in a severe storm, causing its anchor to drag along the seabed and likely damaging the cable. A similar incident in Norway involving another ship also proved unrelated to sabotage, highlighting the complex nature of these investigations.
