Poland's plan to protect media from Russian influence.

The Polish government, led by Prime Minister Donald Tusk, has announced plans to shield major television stations in the country from potentially hostile takeovers. This move is specifically aimed at protecting these stations from any attempts by Russia to exert influence over them.

Tusk emphasized that the upcoming directive, set to be implemented next week, is a safeguard against Russia's ongoing efforts to interfere with European democracy and political systems. He highlighted the recent presidential election in Romania, which was nullified due to allegations of Russian interference, as a concerning example.

Poland, along with other nations supporting Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, has faced cyberattacks targeting its critical infrastructure, including electricity grids, banking systems, and government offices. These attacks underscore the growing threat posed by Russia in the region.

To counter these threats, Tusk announced that Poland's most popular television station, TVN (owned by Warner Bros. Discovery), and the private station Polsat will be added to a list of businesses requiring government approval for any sale. This designation aims to prevent these media outlets from falling under the control of entities deemed hostile or a threat to Poland's interests.

Tusk made these remarks alongside visiting Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal, with both leaders emphasizing their shared commitment to safeguarding the region's security against Russian aggression. Poland and Estonia, both EU members bordering Russia, have been steadfast in providing Ukraine with political, military, and humanitarian support.
