Watch the Show: The Taurids Meteor Showers Light Up the Night Sky.
Reading
Two meteor showers called the Taurids happen every year. They are special because they can make really bright shooting stars. Even though there aren't many shooting stars per hour, the ones you see will be big and bright.
The Southern Taurids peaked on November 7th, and the Northern Taurids will peak on November 12th. You can still see some shooting stars from these showers until December.
Meteor showers happen when Earth passes through dust and rocks left behind by comets. When these rocks enter our atmosphere, they burn up and make bright streaks of light.
The best time to see meteor showers is usually after midnight, away from city lights. Try to find a dark place with no clouds for the best view.
Put away your phone to help your eyes adjust to the darkness. After the Taurids, the next big meteor shower, the Leonids, will happen on November 17th!
