Poland gives military dogs ranks in a special ceremony.

In Poland, near Warsaw, new army dogs were given military ranks at a ceremony. These dogs, specializing in explosive detection, are integral in protecting lives. The dogs, named Einar, Eliot, Enzo, and Emi, are part of a Polish program that honors their service roles.

General Wiesław Kukuła of the Polish Army announced that dogs could earn up to six different military ranks. This decision was celebrated by the dogs' handlers. Handler Lance Corporal Daniel Kęsicki sees the rank as a symbolic homage to the dogs' dedicated service to the country.

The honored dogs belong to the 2nd Mazovian Engineer Regiment, a pioneer in integrating dogs into the Polish armed forces since 2007. A special badge indicating their rank was attached to their harnesses during the ceremony. These rank ceremonies are symbolic and coincide with other military events.

The 2nd Mazovian Engineer Regiment was recently active at the Paris Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, helping secure the event. Polish army dogs also support international missions in places like Iraq and Afghanistan. These dogs form lasting bonds with their handlers, who choose them, train with them, and continue to care for them after retirement.

During a ceremony, the general prioritized the dogs' well-being by removing them from the heat. Meanwhile, Staff Sergeant Michał Młynarczyk described his relationship with his dog, emphasizing the bond and friendship they share. Despite the formal ranking system, dogs always remain subordinate to their handlers, ensuring that soldiers never have to salute dogs.
