Storm Éowyn: Ireland and the UK experience strong winds and major disruptions.
Reading
A very bad storm hit Ireland and the UK. People were told to stay home because of strong winds that were dangerous. The storm caused problems like no power and stopped travel.
The storm was the strongest in Ireland since World War II. Sadly, one man died because a tree fell on his car. Many places were very quiet because people listened to the warnings and stayed inside.
Lots of homes and businesses lost power because of the strong winds. Schools were closed and many flights were cancelled. Even trains and ferries were stopped, and it might take a while to fix everything.
The storm was very powerful and even broke some old records for wind speed. It used to be a snowstorm in the US but changed into a strong wind storm. The storm got even stronger because of something called a 'sting jet' which brought very fast winds down from high in the air.
It is hard to say for sure if this storm was caused by climate change, but scientists believe that warmer temperatures are making storms worse. This means we might see more storms like this in the future, causing even more problems.
