NASA's moon-landing program, named Artemis, depends on private companies like SpaceX, which is developing the Starship mega rocket needed for moon landings. However, the Starship has faced issues, having exploded in both of its test flights so far.

There are concerns about meeting the planned moon landing schedule due to technical challenges, including the development of moonwalking suits and SpaceX's Starship readiness. Despite these setbacks, NASA aims for a 2026 moon landing, which is considered an aggressive schedule.

NASA has conducted a test flight involving an Orion capsule in lunar orbit without crew, revealing unexpected issues like material charring and a design flaw in life-support electronics. Delays in the program have significantly increased costs, with projected total expenses reaching $93 billion through 2025.
